This campagin originally started back in 2018 to support the refugees and asylum seekers remaining on Manus and especially the 53 men who were detained in Bomana Prison for refusing to accept a forcible return to the countries they had fled from. Since 2014 our group has provided practical and financial help to the men seeking refugee and asylum originally detained on Manus island, especially those wrongfully given negative Refugee determination assessments (many of which have been overturned as men have been finally resettled in the U.S. Canada and in Europe).

As of 31st December 2021, the Australian Government have officially ended their processing agreement with PNG, effectively abandoing the remaining 122 men who remain, still awaiting resettlement.

Over the last 4 years, we have when possible provided a small allowance to the men to provide for necessities, to supplement food and to purchase replacements for broken and stolen phones – currently we have 7 men in need of phones. We also help with medical needs including some medication costs.

We also continue to support Manus men who were medevaced supposedly to safety and have been locked up in ‘APODS’ – hotels used as detention centres since 2019. Again many need phones, or acces to other personal items and clothes.

We also provide support where possible to men leaving detention or who are resettled as most have very few personal affects, appropriate clothing etc.

We will continue to provide any support we can until all the men are free or resettled and to make sure these innocent people are not forgotten.

(We are lucky enough to have some who give a regular donation which is why we maintain the same chuffed page rather than starting a new one for each month. The amount raised reflects our ongoing suppot for these costs over the last 4 years.)

We are a group of working with refugee advocate Anne Moon, who has travelled to Manus 6 times and acts as a medical and legal liason for many of the Manus men. Over the last 7 years our group has raised funds through a number of campagins to help with legal, medical and living costs.

Since November 2018 money from this campaign has been spent:

* providing fortnightly allowance of 100 kina * buying replacement phones for men who currently don’t have one * Emergency dental treatment (some men had severe teeth problems for months) totalling $8000 * paying towards hospital and operating costs of emergency appendectomy *other items such as TV antenna; clothing such as boxers and shoes, basic medicines *Covering the 300K fee for IHMS to release the men’s own medical records needed to secure them medical help from Australia

IMPORTANT NOTE: when you donate, any additional contribution to Chuffed is purely voluntary. You can make this amount anything you choose, even zero. It is important to keep this in mind especially if making a large donation, as the suggested amount is based on a % of the donation.
